Checking your battery…

Works in Chrome, Edge and Opera

Firefox and Safari don't share battery information with websites. Desktop computers without a battery show as fully charged and plugged in.

How the battery status works

Your browser reads the same battery information your system shows in its own battery icon and passes it to this page. The page updates on its own when the level or charging state changes, so you can leave it open while you test a charger or cable.

Time estimates come from your system and may show as unknown for a while after plugging in or unplugging, until it has measured the charge rate.

Testing a charger or cable

  1. Let the battery drop below 90% so it has room to charge.
  2. Plug in the charger. Charger should change to "Plugged in" within a few seconds.
  3. If it doesn't, try another cable, socket or port. A cable that powers the device but won't charge it often has a damaged wire.

Frequently asked questions

Can this show my battery's health or wear?

No. Browsers only share the current level and charging state. On Windows, the powercfg /batteryreport command shows capacity over time; on a Mac, look under System Settings › Battery.

Why does it say charging when it's stuck at 80%?

Many laptops and phones stop at 80% to protect the battery. They still count as plugged in.
